Bengaluru, Oct 21: The special investigation team (SIT) which was formed to quickly investigate Gauri Lankesh murder case and unearth the conspiracy behind it, reportedly is facing disappointment. It is said that the facial sketches of two suspects it had released sometime back have created more trouble for them than any benefit.
The SIT had provided telephone numbers to be contacted in case any information about persons whose facial sketches were released, was available with the general public. None of the over 500 calls received by SIT so far was of any use as most the callers questioned the officials about the sketches or about the vermillion mark on the forehead of one of the accused. Some of the callers were interested to know the yardsticks on the basis of which the pictures were drawn. Sources said that these questions created lot of disturbances for the investigators rather than helping their cause.
As per information, several of the staff posted to help the SIT have been deployed back to their respective offices as there have not been any leads about the murder suspects.
Reports said that director general of police of the state, R K Dutta, provided guidance to the SIT team on the methodology of investigation recently, on the basis of the experience he had got as the director of Central Bureau of Investigation. SIT chief, B K Singh, said that SIT team is being used for important work on the investigation while the others have been attending to their routine.
