Bengaluru rains: Heroic rescue of woman from car submerged in water

Bengaluru, Oct 14 (Deccan Chronicle): Incessant rains continue to affect normalcy in Bengaluru over the past few weeks. Heavy downpour claimed lives of six people on Friday evening while four people have died because of recurring potholes in the IT hub of the country.

In a video doing the rounds on social media, a woman who was stuck in a car on a waterlogged street can be seen being rescued by people. The stretch was so deeply waterlogged that the car, with the woman inside had started to float, leaving her with no way of escape.

The hood of the car was almost submerged when bystanders noticed the woman inside, shouting for help.

Five people jumped into the water and rescued the woman.

The incident reportedly took place near the Nayandahalli Circle on Mysuru road on Friday night.

On Friday, two of the six people died after a compound wall fell on them while the four others were washed away and are feared dead.

The rains began its spate at around 6 pm leaving the roads flooded and homes in most parts of Bengaluru Central, North and South. In some areas, residents vacated their homes and ran to upper floors to save themselves as rainwater started gushing in.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased.

    Dear Sir,

I respect your comment, but we don't want any story, at least now government should think and plan accordingly to avoid such kind of disaster.

without proper infrastructure, this is what facing issue here. think about our money, where and we are paying tax, and are we getting at least 10% of facility across city (no proper parking/public toilets/but stand or bus shelter/government hospital/schools..etc)

don't compromise with these any party or government or department.

Great effort by the men who saved the lady. God bless them all.

Men have played with nature. Human beings have destroyed fragile Western Ghats for their selfish ends . I mean money making Yettinahole Project. Environmental had said well in advance that coastal belt will receive less rain and Ghats area will be affected more. Coastal belt receiving less rain fall now. I lived in Mysore too for 13 years from 1984 to 1997 and there was no water logging in those days but last week which was horrible.

Worst things will follow and all these because of man made disasters. Oh God save us and enlighten the minds of the greedy politicians. Jai Hind.

These screaming good for nothing City ppl need some basic training from Villager's like me. I could have taken fraction of a time to save that woman.

Just to mention, I pulled one of my distant cousin (older to me) from drawing when I was 12 years old. One of the reason I could do that was, I was alone and not surrounded by screaming jokers.

    Mr.KR Prabhu< Mangalore/Bangalore: Perfectly said.

Human beings have no answer to the furry of the Nature.

God has own ways to remind human beings what we are up to. For the sake of money and property, human beings prepared do anything, including forgetting the people, their own near and dear ones who have help them in times of need and the worst is prepared to swear falsely in the Court of Law but the Court of Gods Justice is different, there only truth prevails.

At least seeing this Video, let us try to do good and not loot and grab others wealth. Then only human beings will be blessed. Let us learn to live and let live .

    @Edward Monteiro,
Sir do u think a heavy downpour of 2 hours can be termed as "fury of nature"?? Just imagine a situation, that happened in Mumbai, where it rained 1000 mm in 24 hours or worse a mild hurricane n cloudburst (not as mighty as the recent deadly hurricane Irma)!! The scale of destruction in a such a situation would be unimaginable!! And these ominous signs r mother nature's warning signals!!!
