Sullya, Jun 9 : The BJP will stick to its manifesto while implementing programmes, and the vision of the new government will be to transform the state into a welfare state that can boast of opulence, peace and serenity. The government will lay emphasis on creating a congenial atmosphere for a harmonious relationship between all sections of the society. We will also aim to have a strong internal administration and work to maintain peace and order in the state, said state home minister V S Acharya, at a press conference convened at Subrhmanya near here on Sunday, June 8, his first after becoming the home minister.
Besides regulating communal clashes, terrorism and naxalism, priority will be given for the protection of minoritie and weaker sections of the population. All the government departments are facing a backlog of problems as there was no popular government in place in the state during the last about seven months and the state was facing political uncertainty. We will need some time to address the pending problems and show further progress, he detailed.
Flaying the widespread belief that the state is reeling under chemical fertilisers scarcity, the home minister asserted that the state had enough stock of fertilisers. He also asked the people to repose confidence in the state government's ability to tackle the chikungunya menace, as all measures have been taken to contain it.
The press conference was attended by Sullya MLA S Angara, Kukke Lord Subrahmanya temple governing council president T V Bhat and others.
Dr V S Acharya later paid a visit to Dharmastala temple and invoked the blessings of Lord Manjunatheshwara. During the visit, he called upon Dr D Veerendra Heggade and Harshendra Kumar. Acharya revealed, that a meeting of the top officials of the police department is being convened on June 9 at Bangalore, followed by a meeting with union home ministry officials on June 10 at New Delhi, to discuss ways and means to modernise police department and initiating steps against those abetting terrorism.
