Moodbidri, Sep 29: The vacation bench of the High Court of Karnataka has directed authorities to maintain status quo in respect to ‘Military Maidan’ in Moodbidri.
Sudarshan M, a resident of Moodbidri had filed a public interest litigation stating that the 28.35 acres in Marapadi village has been named as ‘Military Maidan’ from a very long time. He alleged that the deputy commissioner, without obtaining consent from defence authorities, transferred land to the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
The DC has no jurisdiction to pass an order of change of mutation of defence land, he pointed out in his PIL.
A division bench comprising Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice H B Prabhakar Sastry ordered status quo and issued notice to the state and the central governments. In the interim order, the court asked the authorities not to take up any further construction in the said land for six weeks.
