Bangalore / New Delhi, Jun 7: While a minimum of 45 votes are required for the election of one candidate, the Congress which secured 80 seats in the 224-member assembly would get elect one candidate elected on its own.
Names of senior Congress leaders Veerappa Moily, S M Krishna and C K Jaffer Sherief are doing the rounds for the Rajya Sabha nominations from Karnataka, elections for which are scheduled on June 26.
While a minimum of 45 votes are required for the election of one candidate, the Congress which secured 80 seats in the 224 member assembly would get elect one candidate elected on its own.
Elections would be held for four seats in Karnataka.
Congress sources said that the party is yet to take a call whether to align with the H D Deve Gowda-led JD(S) which has 28 seats.
Mallikarjuna Kharge, who was the PCC chief, has been made Congress Legislature Party leader after the assembly polls, and Central leadership is veering towards the view that Siddaramaiah should be given some other assignment instead of the PCC chief.
This was because Siddaramaiah was a new entrant to the party.
