Kundapur, Sep 29: A fisherman from Maravanthe died after having been accidentally hit by the rotor wheel used for pulling country boats ashore. This incident happened on the evening of Wednesday September 27.
The victim was Narasimha Kharvi (49). He was working a fishermen and also operated a fishing boat on partnership basis. After unloading fish from his boat, he was disbursing wages to the fishermen working for him, when a rope of a rotor wheel of another boat got snapped, and the heavy rotor wheel came at tremendous speed and hit him hard. Both his legs were badly damaged and his private parts bore the brunt of this hit. He lost consciousness and died when being shifted to hospital.
Narasimha was popular in the community and he was identified as social and religious leader in Byndoor surroundings. He had worked as managing committee member of Varahaswamy temple at Maravanthe for three terms.
On Thursday, hundreds of people paid last respects to their beloved leader.
Kharvi is survived by wife, a daughter, and a son. A case of accidental death has been registered in Gangolli police statin.
