Mangalore, Jun 7: Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation P.K. Subbaiah has suspended another junior engineer, the third in the series, for dereliction of duty.
The suspension order on Arun, a junior engineer, was issued on Wednesday.
The commissioner, who took charge on April 2, had suspended two junior engineers on charges of irregularity, recently.
Mr. Arun was suspended on Wednesday for allegedly making a bill for a work which was not executed. The bill was related to construction of stormwater drain from Kottara to Kottara Chowki and laying cement slabs on it.
“The decision to suspend him was taken after inspecting the work spot,” the commissioner told The Hindu.
“Show cause notice has been issued to Mr. Arun’s superior Linge Gowda, assistant executive engineer, for dereliction of duty in this case,” he added.
Mr. Linge Gowda supervises the work of Mr. Arun.
“Steps have been taken to frame charges against the two,” Mr. Subbaiah said.
Sources in the corporation said that the civic body had prepared six work-estimates of Rs. one lakh each to complete the drain measuring 176 metres from Kottara to Kottara Chowki.
But after completion, the drain measured only 154 m. The corporation top brass had dropped the sixth estimate. However, the accused junior engineer prepared a fake bill for the sixth estimate of Rs. 98,000 and submitted for clearance. The bills for five estimates were for Rs. 96,000, Rs. 97,000, Rs. 98,000, Rs. 95,500 and Rs. 95,000.
Mr. Arun parepared the bill for for a 22-m long drain which was not at all carried out. He was trying to claim the bill for 176-m drain while actually completing 154-m long drain.
Sources said that the junior engineer had prepared a bogus bill for a work that was done at all and that too, in a ward which was not allotted to him.
