Mangaluru: Man trying to sell ganja near district prison arrested

Mangaluru, Sep 28: Personnel of Barke police station in the city took into custody a person named Ravikumar (28) from Mukrampady, Puttur, when he was trying to sell ganja near the district prison here on Wednesday September 27. 115 grams of ganja worth Rs 2,800 and a cellphone worth one thousand rupees were confiscated.

Ravikumar was moving around the neighbourhood of the prison in a suspicious way. Based on gut feeling, the police questioned him. Ravikumar told the police that he had brought ganja for sale. The police suspected that he might have brought ganja here in order to toss it inside the prison over the wall.

Ravikumar had been imprisoned earlier and was released 17 days back. He told the police during questioning that he brought ganja from Talapady. The police found out that he faces cases of theft, assault and ganja sale in different stations like Puttur town station, Bunder, Kadri and Barke stations in the city. It is learnt that he had taken part in a fight which erupted between two gangs including the one lead by Rashid Malbari on the issue of suppying Biryani brought from outside to under-trial prisoners a few years back inside the district prison.
