Hassan, Sep 28: Five persons including two ladies drowned in a pond after a car in which they were travelling went wayward and plunged into the water body. Although the tragedy had occurred on the night of Sunday, the car and the body of one of the occupants became visible on Wednesday morning, after which the villagers informed the police.
The tragedy occurred in Hanumanahalli pond in Holenarasipura taluk in the district. The deceased have been identified as Ajay from Arasikere and Vijay from Shivamogga, both of whom used to sell puffed rice to train passengers on board. Driver of the car was Anil from Tattekare village near Holenarasipur. But both the deceased women remain unidentified.
The ill-fated Maruti Swift car had left the town on the night of Sunday with four passengers and car driver, Anil, to Gorur via Hangarahalli. On the road between Hangarahalli and Hanumanahalli, the car driver presumably lost control over the vehicle after which the car rushed into the roadside pond. As the doors of the car were locked, the occupants could not come out.
After having been informed of the tragedy, town police went there and brought out the car and bodies with the help of fire brigade personnel and a crane.
It is said that car driver, Anil, was operating his car on lease basis for the silk board's office here. Postmortems of the bodies of Ajay, Vijay, and Anil, were conducted at the mortuary of Holenarasipur. As the women have not yet been identified, their mortal remains were shifted to the mortuary of the government hospital in the district headquarters. It is believed that both the women are from Bengaluru.
