Mangaluru, Sep 26: A complete poetry event ‘Kavi Sandhi’ dedicated to Konkani poetry was organised by Radio Sarang 107.8 and ‘Poetics’ group at Sanidhya Hall St Aloysius College on Saturday September 23.
The Vishwa Konkani Kendra Shakthi Nagar and Konkan Ghar Saudi Arabia were the sponsors of this event.
Inaugurating the event Basti Vaman Shenoi, president of Konkani Viswa Kendra said, “I am happy to note that younger generation is showing keen interest in Konkani literature. We can see number of young talented poets emerging in Konkani language. The senior writers and poets should always support the youngsters for their literary works and literature based programmes. I hope that timely suggestions and financial help will boost the interest in language and culture. I thank Radio Sarang and Poetics group for this event. We need these types of programmes more often.”
Fr Dainsius Vas, rector of St Aloysius College said, “The word Konkani has brought us here with a spirit of one family. We all love our mother tongue without any expectations. We never want to lose our love for Konkani. I am very happy to see many young talents here for poetry session. Radio Sarang is always with you for these types of events and gatherings.”
Shakuntala Kini, Naveen Pirera Surathkal ,Wilson Kateel, Andrew LD Kunha, Stany Bela, Smitha Shenoi, Roshu Bajpe, Jocy Sidhakatte, Vincent Pinto Angelore, Felcy Lobo Derebail Smitha Prabhu,Venissa Moras, Venkatesh Naik recited their poems and well known Konkani poet Jocy Sidhakatte moderated the poetry session
HM Pernal, Editor of Kittall presented his views on the poetry and its current situation. He illustrated how a poetry can be more effective than a prose.
Fr Melvyn Pinto, co-director of Radio Sarang welcomed the gathering of poets and poetry enthusiasts.
