Kasargod, Jun 5: In response to the UPA government's decision to hike the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders, the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which is the ruling party in Kerala and the BJP called a hartal throughtout Kerala on Thursday June 5.
Trasport was hit and only a few taxis were seen plying on the roads. Inter-state buses from Karnataka were sent back from the border.
Shops and educational institutions remained closed with only a few medical stores and groceries opening business.
LDF and BJP took out separate rallies in protest against the price hike. Chandrashekhar Nair, Kunhiraman, P Krishnan, Karivellur Vijayan, Abdur Rehman Bangod, R G Kurup, Vijayan Master, Sumathi Bhaskaran and others were part of the LDF rally.
The hartal went on peacfully and so far no untoward incident has been reported.
