New Delhi, Sep 23 (IANS): The AAP on Friday launched a nationwide protest against high petrol and diesel prices.
In Delhi, senior party leader Gopal Rai and volunteers took out a march and burned an effigy at ITO junction, while in other parts of the national capital, party leaders hit the streets against the high prices and raised slogans against the central government.
Rai said that international price of crude oil has more than halved in the last three years, but the price of petrol has increased, while the Central government had increased the excise tax on petrol by 150 per cent, since it came to power in 2014.
In West Bengal, party volunteers assembled outside the regional office of Indian Oil and raised slogans.
In Telangana also party workers took out a march in protest of the high prices.
Protests were taken out by party leaders in other parts of the country also.
The protests would be held across the nation from September 22 to 30 and on Tuesday, party leaders will 'gherao' the Union Petroleum Ministry.
On September 30 (Dusshera), AAP volunteers will burn effigies of 'Ravan of price rise' in all 272 wards of Delhi.
