Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 19: The Muhurat of the Konkani play ’Zuz’ written by Fr Alwin Serrao, principal of Padua College of Commerce and Management was held at Padua Auditorium recently.

Renowned Konkani dramatist and actor Eddie Sike performed the task of Muhurat by releasing the poster of the play. Addressing the gathering, he congratulated Fr Alwin for writing the religious play in a unique manner. Recollecting his memories he said that the olden days’ writers used to write religious plays keeping verbatim to the religious text that was available to them. But Fr Alwin has written this particular play by interpreting the text. He also appreciated his novel idea of reading out the script to a mixed group of people to assess its reception and understanding prior to its staging.

This was followed by ‘Katharang’, a unique concept designed by Christopher D’ Souza Ninasam, where the Konkani students of Padua Degree College, presented four short stories by way of reading, acting, painting and photography. The stories chosen for enacting were: ‘Maria written by Sirivanth, ‘Tho Patin Yethalo’ written by Irene Pinto, ‘Avghad’ written by Dr Edward Nazareth and ‘Sumathi’ written by Hemacharya. An interaction with the audience followed ‘Katharang’.

Earlier, the programme began with welcome accorded by Fr Alwin. In his welcome speech he spoke about, the classification of various Indian languages and how and why languages die and how to revive a dying language.

The programme was attended by many of the eminent Konkani dramatists, writers, critics and well-wishers.
