Puttur, Jun 2: Puttur Assistant Commissioner (AC) Vasantkumar resumed the task of demolishing illegal structures in Uppinangady on Monday, Jun 2.
More than 10 illegal buildings were demolished here on Monday. Notices had been served on the occupants of the illegal structures moe than two months ago, to vacate the sites and raze the structures to the ground on their own, setting May 31, 2008 as deadline. But the building owners didn’t pay heed to the notice. Therefore, the AC with the help of JCB and in the presence of tahsildar, started the demolition drive on Sunday, June 1. During the operation on Sunday, about 20 buildings were demolished. The local police provided security during the demolition drive that was initiated on Sunday and continued on Monday.
AC Vasantkumar expressed his intention to demolish the remaining illegal structures soon. Later he visited Nellyadi to inspet and make a list of the illegal constructions there. It appears, that owners constructed these buildings with the connivance of the local village panchayat officials. They now are made to pay a heavy price for their covertive practice.
We may recall that the same AC had cleared the roads at Puttur by demolishing almost all the illegal constructions here. Alhough stiff resistance was encountered for the operation initially, they faded against the firm stand taken by the AC, Vasantkumar has been successful in achieving the goal of clearing the roads and roadsides of illegal buildings. The operations carried out by him at Puttur and Uppinangady were well appreciated by the local people for the fact that he did bot wilt under any political pressure.
