Puttur: Shiradi Ghat Reopens for Traffic, Pending Minor Works

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (MSP)

Puttur, Jun 2: The traffic on the Shiradi Ghat stretch of the National Highway 48 between Mangalore and Bangalore, reopened for traffic from Sunday June 1.

Owing to the deplorable state of this part of the highway, traffic on the ghat section was banned from November last, compelling vehicles from Mangalore to take a detour through Charmadi ghat to reach Bangalore which required an additional two to three hours journey to reach the state capital.

National Highway Authority assistant executive engineer Somashekhar has informed, that barring minor works, all the necessary work on the ghat section have been completed, and that works amounting to Rs 30 crore out of the total outlay of Rs 32 crore have been completed. On the first day itself, heavy vehicles including ore-laden trucks made use of this stretch of the national highway.
