- The Bharatiya Jana Sangh had gained administration of Udupi municipality during 1968 which was the first municipal body reigned by Bharatiya Jana Sangh in the whole of south India. Now the BJP has once again gained state administration while Dr V S Acharya has become senior minister in CM B S Yeddyurappa's cabinet.
- Veteran BJP leader L K Advani had arrived in Udupi in 1968 to congratulate Bharatiya Jana Sangh's political leverage in local administration who has congratulated Dr V S Acharya at Raj Bhavan after the oath taking ceremony for ministerial berth. Advani has acknowledged the role of local BJP veterans in the progress of Karnataka and Udupi, informed Gujjady Prabhakar Naik.
- It had rained heavily on Saturday May 31 morning. However, the cloudy weather cleared by afternoon, making it convenient for local BJP activists to undertake victory celebrations all over the assembly constituency.
Udupi, Jun 1: "The newly formed BJP state administration stands committed to fulfill all the promises listed in their poll manifesto including maintaining peace and order, in its five year term" said Dr V S Acharya, minister in the newly formed B S Yeddyurappa's cabinet, on Saturday May 31.
Dr Acharya was speaking during the victory celebration of newly elected MLA K Raghupathy Bhat, when the former arrived in the city after taking oath as minister at Raj Bhavan, on Friday May 30.
"The state government would focus on the welfare of masses, improving basic amenities, advance loans at lower interest rates to fishermen and for the prosperity of all Kannadigas, residing across the state", he added.
"The state government would concentrate on improving the living standards of all Kannadigas, with special emphasis on framing policies, in order to effectively combat law and order situations in the state. Moreover, the party would not involve itself in any controversy nor devise plans to settle political enmity, during its five year term.” he assured.
"Kannadigas residing across the state had voted with determination, to end political instability that has been plaguing the state administration since the past few years. The healthy voter turn out in the recently held assembly polls has boosted the party's morale, unlike in the past." he informed.
“The Congress led union government has been shirking in its responsibility on spiraling inflation, terrorism and corruption issues which attributed to the causes for global phenomena. Kannadigas had voted against the Congress, since the voters cannot accept the fact that why countries smaller than India are surging ahead in development.” he opined.
Development of assembly constituency : Raghupathy Bhat
The newly elected BJP MLA Raghupathy attended the victory rallies that were held across the city and ended at Kokkarne, from Friday May 30, after B S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as chief minister of Karnataka.
He would strive to improve the party's image in the district, since it was tarnished by Congress propaganda especially during poll campaign. He was ever grateful to the voters in his assembly constituency for electing him . He also assured them that he would visit remote areas in his assembly constituency and few areas of Bramavar, in order to improve basic amenities to the masses, he added.
MLA Lalaji Mendon, BJP district president Kota Srinivas Poojary, municipal councilor Dinakar Shetty, party leaders Shyamala Kundar, Sheela K Shetty, Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, K Suresh Naik, Uday Kumar Shetty, Baikady Suprasad Shetty, APMC president Vijay Kumar Udyavar and others were present at the occasion.
Gujjady Prabhakar Nayak delivered the introductory address. The general public congratulated Dr Acharya and Raghupathy Bhat by offering flowers and garlands.
