Udupi, Sep 12: The deanery's ICYM , on Sunday, September 10, celebrated ‘Kutma Fest’ under the leadership of ICYM Udyavara unit, at St Francis Xavier Church Hall, Udyavar.
The inaugural was presided over by Fr Valerian Mendonca, chancellor of Udupi diocese and parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi.
Fr Jason Pais, assistant director of Assisi Nilaya Moodubelle was the chief guest for the programme.
In his inaugural message Fr Valerian Mendonca said, "There were days when peopel were away from their families for their missionary work and used to miss their family on the day of Monti Fest, but now due to the advanced technology, that bond between the family members has deteriorated. It is the responsibility of the youth to preserve the culture and tradition, and family bonds."
Speaking on the occasion Fr Jason Pais highlighted the value of Monti Fest to the youths.
John M D’Souza, principal of Trinity ITI College Udyavar was the resource person. He spoke on the need for involvement of youths in a family.
As many as 40 Children of St Vincent Pallotti convent, Udyavar joined the youth for Kutma Fest. Around 170 youths from nine parishes of Udupi deanery attended the cheerful event.
Several fun games were conducted for the youths as well as the children St Vincent Pallotti convent, Udyavar.
Fr Alban D'Souza offered a prayer and blessed the meal prepared by various units.
Lunch was served in a South Indian style, on banana leaves. The food was in accordance with the traditional dishes prepared during the feast of Nativity. Various vegetarian dishes were prepared by different ICYM units of Udupi Varado and were served for lunch.
Fr Lawrence Cutinnha, ICYM Udupi deanery director, Fr Roque D’Souza, parish priest St Francis Xavier Church, Fr Denis D'sa, PRO , Udupi diocese, Fr Edwin D’Souza, ICYM director, Udupi diocese, Fr Alban D’Souza, parish priest of Stella Maris Church, Kalmady, Fr Ronson D’Souza, parish priest of St Vincent De Paul Church, Katpady, Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas, parish priest of Christ Church, Manipal, sister Clara Almedia, superior of St Vincent Pallotti Convent, Melwyn Noronha, Michael D'Souza, vice president And secretary of Udyavar church, Dion D Souza, president of ICYM Udupi deanery, Vincent Fernandes, animator of ICYM Udupi deanery, Rithesh D’Souza and Asha Pinto animators of ICYM Udyavar Unit were present for the programme.
Marvin D’Souza, president of ICYM Udyavara unit welcomed the gathering. Shainy Alva, secretary ICYM Udupi deanery proposed the vote of thanks. Rosalia Cardoza compered the programme.
Prior to the Monti Fest all units of Udupi deanery conducted a cleanliness drive whereby they cleaned the house and the surroundings of aged and the needy in their respective units. The acts of kindness was lauded by parishioners of all units.
