Kasargod, Sep 7: In an operation conducted by the special squad of excise department, Kumble, a youth was taken into custody and unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 5,70,000 found in his possession was seized. The youth was travalling by Kerala State Transport Corporation bus when the excise department intercepted the bus at Posotu near Manjeshwar on Wednesday September 6.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rahamatullah (36), son of Haji K Iddinabba, resident of Vidyanagar, Panjimogaru, Kulur, Mangaluru. It is said that the money in his possession had been sent from Saudi Arabia for being distributed to people living at Hosangady and Uppal in Kerala.
The officials of excise department stumbled upon this huge cache when they were checking buses for illegal liquor transportation on the occasion of Onam festival. The officials said that the arrested youth happens to be only an employee hired to transport cash and the Hawala racket is backed by big names. The officials said they will continue with investigation in an effort to bust the racket.
