Udupi, Sep 6: Kemmannu ICYM unit, on Sunday, September 3, organised the Kallianpur deanery level 'Yuva Samagam' at St Philomena School hall, Kemmannu.
Yuva Samagam comprised of day-long programmes including inauguration, youth catechism, Mass, cultural programmes and a valedictory function.
Around 200 youths from 9 parishes of Kallianpur deanery participated in the programme.
Yuva Samagam was formally inaugurated by the lighting of lamp by chief guest Fr Stephen D’Souza, resource person for youth catechism, Fr Victor D’Souza, Kemmannu parish priest, Dorathy Andrade and Jason Dlima, animators of ICYM Kemmannu, Melcon Lewis, president of Kallianpur deanery level ICYM, Aral D’Souza and Melita Crasta, president and joint secretary of ICYM Kemmannu respectively.
Fr Stephan D’Souza stressed the importance of the Youth Catechism in modern times and narrated its evolution.
After Mass and lunch, ICYM members assembled in the hall for the cultural programme and competition. Each of the 9 parishes was assigned 15 minutes during which they were required to present a skit and a dance.
Aral D’Souza, president of ICYM kemmannu welcomed the gathering, Melita Crasta, joint secretary delivered the vote of thanks, Michelle Fernandes, ICYM unit member introduced the resource person of the day. Crissane Dais, ICYM unit member was the MC for the day.
Soon after the competition, a valedictory function was held. Fr Stany B Lobo, parish priest of Milagres Cathedral presided over the valedictory function. Other dignitaries on the dais included Fr Leslie D’souza, ICYM director Kallianpur deanary, Fr Rolvin Aranha, ICYM assistant director, Fr Victor D’Souza, Kemmannu parish priest, Fr Anil Castelino, Kolalgiri parish priest, Charles Lewis, vice president Kemmannu parish, Aral D’Souza, kemmannu unit president, Melcon Lewis, Kallianpur deanery ICYM president, Sherlin D’Sa, ICYM diocese president, Don D’Souza, ICYM diocese vice president, and Michelle Ferrao, ICYM president Karkal deanary.
Fr Victor D’Souza appreciated the work done by the ICYM members of Kemmannu in organising the Yuva Samagam and giving an opportunity to the youth of the Kallianpur deanery to have the rich experience of the Youcat.
The ICYM team from Kolalgiri Church, were the winners and the ICYM team from Mt Rosary Church were runners up.
Melcon Lewis, Kallianpur deanery ICYM president welcomed the gathering. Jovita, Kallianpur deanery ICYM secretary concluded the programme with vote of thanks.
