Puttur, Sep 5: Accusing a teacher of the government upgraded higher primary school at Konaje near Kadaba in the taluk, parents, members of school development committee and others held protest opposite school on Monday September 5, demanding immediate transfer of the teacher.
Reportedly, the teacher in question, Ajit Kumar Jain, had hit seventh standard student, Chetan, son of Muchurodi Girish from Konaje, on August 31 with a wooden foot-rule. The student who developed health complications thereafter, was admitted into hospital. Allegedly, two other students who tried to block the attack on the said student were also beaten up. A complaint in this regard was filed in Uppinangady police station.
People who addressed protesters in the school compound said that students are afraid to attend this school because of goondaism of this particular teacher who uses filthy language against students. They said that the teacher had behaved similarly in his previous school. They asked the teacher to be deployed for office work as he is not fit for teaching. They warned of stronger forms of protest.
Konaje garm panchayat president, Baby, vice president, Yashodhar Gowda Konaje, school development and monitoring committee president, Shivappa Gowda S etc spoke on the occasion. A number of locals including dignitaries were present.
On behalf of block education officer, education coordinator of Uppinangay-Savanur block, Kukka K, visited the spot and accepted a memorandum from the protesters. He requested the parents to send their children to school. On the basis of his assurance, students attended school thereafter and the protest was withdrawn.
