Mangaluru, Sep 3: Head teacher of government higher primary school at Mannagudda in the city, Joyce Henrita, has been chosen for state level best teacher award in primary school section. Henrita had earlier bagged 'Jana Mechchida Shikshaki award (2008-09), and district level best teacher award last year.
Henrita had earlier worked in Kavalakatte higher primary school in Bantwal taluk and Bokkapatna school here. She has been serving the current school since the last ten years. She has been instrumental in transforming this Kannada medium school into a model school and developing the school with the support of various organizations.
Head teacher of government higher primary school at Parkala Shettibettu, U Ahalya, has been chosen for state level best teacher award. Ahalya has served several schools including Puthige Kungoor, Uppur, and Gundmi schools. She also has served as mass resource person here and head teacher of Belman school. Her contributions in the sectors of introducing English teaching from first standard, appointment of honorary teacher for quality education, bringing back school dropouts, developing school with help from donors etc have won her this recognition.
B T Naik, vice principal of government PU College at Brahmavar, has been picked for state level best teacher award by the government. Naik, who earlier worked in Swami Vivekananda school at Yedapadavu near the city, joined government service as teacher of Shankarnarayana PU College in 1994. After serving Brahmavar PU college and as head teacher of Kalthur Santhekatte government high school, he came back as vice principal of Brahmavar government PU college.
Naik happens to be the district secretary of High School Head Teachers Association besides being in-charge educational officer of the cluster.
The awards will be handed over at a function being held at Bengaluru on September 5.
