Mangaluru, Sep 1: Supreme Court (SC) has quashed the ban placed by the central government against admission of students into MBBS course in the college being run by Kanachur Islamic Education Trust. The bench of the SC presided over by Chief Justice, Dipak Misra, passed this order during the hearing on Thursday August 31.

The central government had issued stay against the admission process into the medical college of the trust for the years 2017-18 and 2018-19 on August 10. The trust had appealed to Supreme Court against this order. Supreme Court has now allowed the college to admit students till September 5.

The bench observed when passing the order, that when issuing stay order, the central government had not exercised enough caution, objectiveness, and propriety, nor did it properly scrutinize the documents connected therein. It has only taken steps on the basis of information it got prima facie relating to the petitioner college. It also said that the central government order was not in tune with the SC order dated August 1.

The SC had said that if necessary private medical colleges too should be allowed to admit medical students for 2017-18 and 2018-19. A bench of the SC comprising Justice Amitava Roy and Justice A M Khanvilkar had permitted Medical Council of India to visit the college and verify the facilities.
