Mangaluru: BJP minority morcha welcomes SC verdict on triple talaq

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug 23: Triple talaq also known as talaq-e-mughallazah—irrevocable divorce is a form of Islamic divorce that was practised by Muslims in India. It allowed any Muslim man to legally divorce his wife by stating the word talaq (the Arabic word for ‘divorce’) three times in verbal, written, or more recently electronic form.

Joylus D’souza, Dakshina Kannada district president of BJP Minority Morcha welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on Triple Talaq and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted this inhumane practice to stop.

“He did state the same in his address in April at the BJP national executive meet in Bhubaneshwar which was memorable and clear. The BJP passed a resolution there reaffirming his commitment towards building a ‘society of equal opportunities’ where nobody would be treated as inferior. "Justice needs to be delivered to every citizen without any bias or prejudice,” he said.

“We all stand by Muslim women who want to fight the practice of triple talaq. Dignity is guaranteed to all under the constitution. We are with Modi, ‘Sangharsh nahin, samjha kar samajik parivartan lana hai’ (We have to bring social change through dialogue, not conflict),” he quoted the PM Modi.
