Puttur: Six notorious thieves involved with 16 cases arrested, assets seized

Puttur, Aug 18: Police personnel attached to Sampya station in the taluk have succeeded in taking into custody six notorious thieves involved in 16 cases of thefts in houses and shops within the local subdivision. The arrested accused are Ashraf alias Muhammed Ashraf alias Tarigudde Ashraf (31) from Tarigudde near Salmara, Answar Ali (37), Udaif (26), Muhammed Sadiq alias Sadiq (19) residing near Chetana Hospital, Muhammed Taufeeq (20) from Ojala in Kodippady village and Rafique alias Kappu Rafique (20), resident of Chikkamudnur village.

The gang of six, seated in an auto rickshaw that was parked near Kallarpe bus stand in Aryapu village at midnight on Wednesday August 16, was planning to execute a theft when Sampya police sub-inspector, Abdul Khader and other personnel on patrol duty took them into custody based on suspicion and questioned them. The police then realized that the gang was involved in 16 cases of thefts.

A steel rod, two hacksaw blades and two screwdrivers were found in the three-wheeler. The suspicion of the police grew after finding a voter ID stolen from the house of Dilshan Babu from Keyyur village. Ashraf was found to be in possession of two driving licences issued in Karnataka and Kerala states. Tarigudde Ashraf has been found to be involved with 12 of the 16 thefts stated above. An Innova car, an auto rickshaw, a motor bike, two television sets, two laptops, an iron box and six cellphones found to be in possession of thieves were taken into possession. The Innova car bears a Maharashtra registration number, police said.
