Udupi, Aug 16: The 42nd Youth Congress convention and installation ceremony of new office bearers organised by Udupi constituency was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes at Srinivasa Kalyana Mantapa here on Tuesday, August 15.
Addressing the gathering, Oscar said, “Today’s youth has to be taught about unity. Selection of efficient leaders should be left in the hands of people. Leaders should work on providing job opportunities and initiating health programmes to reach the deprived classes of the society.”
“The state government is setting up Indira canteens in Bengaluru. This would be the first cheap and best public canteen in the country after Tamil Nadu. Leaders should work under do or die policy. They should help the poor. Let us work together by uniting youth to build a strong nation. Let NSUI and Youth Congress sevadal units join hands to strengthen youth power,” he added.
Appreciating the works of Oscar, district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Oscar became a leader in the Congress party only due to his hard work. There is a more freedom in India unlike other countries. Hence, India stands as one of the strongest nations in the world.”
“Congress is a powerful political party in the nation because of its efficient administration. But now the political scenario has changed. Youth are being provoked to engage in communal activities. BJP activist Praveen Poojary was brutally killed by his own party members and the pain of his death is still there in the minds of people. Many youngsters are suffering in Hiriyadka jail, due to communal conflicts. Opposition party leaders earn free publicity due to communal speeches,” he stated.
“The Congress party never provoked any youth to indulge in any anti-social activities. It has always welcomed suggestions from public. Citizens should feel free to give suggestions. The Congress party will present a team of youth in a year,” he concluded.
Prashanth Poojary, took charge as the president of Youth Congress committee, Udupi constituency. Other new office bearers of Youth Congress committee who took charge, received ID cards and shawls from Congress leaders.
