Udupi, Aug 11: The members of National Student Union of India (NSUI), Udupi unit on Friday August 11 staged a protest in front of Clock tower, demanding justice for Kavya, student of Alvas Institution Moodbidri.
Addressing the protesters, Mangaluru University senate member and Congress leader Amrith Shenoy said, “Many suspicions and rumours are revolving around the mysterious death of Kavya. The actual facts have not come to light so far. It may be mental torture, physical harassment, external pressure or something else which led to the death of Kavya. Why has the board of education not discussed about circumstances of her death? There were many suicide cases reported in the same school campus. But no cases have been solved so far. The protest is not against the education institution or any person. We are fighting to get justice for the family of Kavya. The truth should be revealed in a fair investigation. The safety measures of students should be discussed seriously.”
“Udupi-Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karandlaje was furious and passed statements condemning the incident at Bantwal. But here no one is questioning about the unnatural death of a student. Why has she kept silent and not given any statement on this case?” questioned Amrith Shenoy.
“Many educational intuitions are violating the norms these days. Some of the private education institutions have enrolled students out of their capacity. The concerned department and the government should take stern action against such institutions,” he added.
Congress leader, K Janardhan Bhandarkar, Christon Almedia, NSUI president, Mark Sequera, Mahammed Wali, Levita, Pawan, Prajwal Kundar, Calwin D’Silva, Karthik K, Prince Li Lewis and others were present.
