Beltangady, Aug 11: Irked by the irresponsible behaviour of the deputy commissioner about the DC Manna land issue, Dalit organisations demanded his transfer and the distribution of the said land.

Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (Ambedkarite) and the coordination committee of district level Dalit organisations, on Thursday, August 10, submitted a memorandum in the regard to the chief minister and the revenue minister through the Tashildar, here.

"So far the government has failed to provide the land, allocated during Birtish era, to the backward classes. We have been fighting for rights to the land for three decades now. The officials have been quoting legal hurdles as reasons and depriving people of their rights. When the Dalit representatives asked for the distribution of the DC Manna land during  SC-ST grievance meet on August 2, the district commissioner made poor excuses and later walked out of the meet. We condemn this behaviour," said the protesters.

"The presiding officer walking out of the meet, has caused immense pain to the community. We condemn the autocratic attitude of the district commissioner. The DC must be immediately transferred from the district, and the landless Dalits must be given the DC Manna land. If not, we will wave black flags at all programmes that the DC attends and will hold protests there," they said.

President of the coordination committe, Chand L, secretary  BK Vasant, taluk convenor of  DSS (Ambedkarite), Venkanna Koyyur, leader Sesappa Aladangadi, Nemiraj Killur, Nagaraj Laila, Sridhara Kalenja, Narayana Puduvettu, Jayananda Koyyur,Vijaya Kumar Bajire, Sundara Nalkuru, Sundara SMT, Anand Nellingeri, N C Sanjeeva, Shankar Maladi, and Koosa Aladangadi were present.
