Puttur, Aug 7: Eight persons travelling by a jeep including its driver suffered injuries of varying degrees after an accident involving the jeep and a car occurred on the evening of Sunday August 6 at Arla near Nelyady in the taluk.
Farmer residing at Hosamane, Ichalampady, identified as Mayilappa Shetty, and his relatives, Anand Shetty, Susheela, Indravathi, Shobhavathi, Asha, Samanwi, and jeep driver, Shivaram Rai, from Maikaje in Mardala, were injured.
The jeep that was moving towards Nelyady was trying to overtake a KSRTC bus at Arla when it hit a car coming from opposite direction. A person named Hrishikesh from Kadri, Mangaluru who was the lone occupant of the car, escaped unhurt.
Mayilappa, who had been chosen for this year's taluk level award meant for best farmer belonging to Bunt community being given annually by Puttut Taluk Buntara Sangha, had gone to Buntara Bhavana in the town on Sunday to receive his award with some relatives. When he was returning home with the award, he was involved with the said accident.
