Mangaluru: Under-trial prisoner suffering from stomachache passes away

Mangaluru, Aug 7: Babu Salian (56) from Hebbanahalli near Sakleshpur, who was an under-trial prisoner at the district prison here, breathed his last on Sunday August 6. Salian, who was suffering from acute stomachache, had been admitted into the district Wenlock Hospital here for treatment.

Salian, a native of Hebbanahalli, used to reside in a house near Kadabettu Vogga in Bantwal taluk. He was accused of sexually harassing a minor girl during his visit to Moodbidri about one and half years back. Since February 2016 he was in judicial custody.

Since sometime, he had been complaining of stomachache frequently, and was given treatment. On Saturday morning too he went to hospital from the prison and got medicine for the problem. On the same night, his problem aggravated, after which Salian was taken to the hospital and admitted.

During the period he was in the hospital, Salian suffered cardiac arrest at around 4.30 am on Sunday and lost his life. A case about the incident was filed in Pandeshwar police station in the city about this death.

    Medical people must have not taken his problem seriously.because he is a prisoner.May be he was having some acute appendix,or some intestine problem which remained un diagnosed .A scanning would have helped. Cardiac arrest ?when one had long time stomach pain?I dont understand.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to his family.
