Udupi, Aug 4: A youth found to be selling ganja in a public place was arrested from a junction near Laxmindranagara here on Wednesday August 2. The arrest was made by the personnel of district crime intelligence burearu (DCIB).
The man in question has been identified as Rahul Ranjan (26), a native of Kankarbagh in Patna district, Bihar. He used to stay in rented accommodation at Grace Cottage, Vidyaratna Nagara, Manipal.
The police said Ranjan used to supply ganja to locals and students from Manipal area. On Wednesday, DCIB police inspector, Ratnakumar, went to near a junction where a board showing way to Sagri ward stands on connecting road of Laxmindranagara and took the person into custody. The police found 3.148 kg of ganja and 398 grams of ganja packed in 12 paper rolls, in addition to a cellphone, a motor bike, helmet and Rs 4,400 being sale proceeds of ganja, were also found in his possession, all of which were seized.
It is learnt that police inspector, Ratnakumar, was tipped about the sale of ganja as above by an informer at around 4.30 pm on Wednesday.
