Moodbidri, Aug 2: The Saverapura parish of Moodbidri deanery wore a festive look on Tuesday, August 1, on the occasion of silver jubilee celebration of chapel and parish, and inauguration of the newly built parish house by Redemptorist Community of Nithyadhar Nivas, Alangar.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangaluru diocese, along with MLA Abhayachandra Jain, inaugurated the newly built road of the church.
This was followed by the presbytery inauguration by Fr Ivel Mendanha, CSSR, vice-provincial superior, vice province of Majella, Mumbai.
Bishop Aloysius blessed the presbytery and chapel located inside the house.
A Solemn Jubilee mass was held, where bishop Aloysius was the main celebrant. Nearly 40 priests of Moodbidri deanery and many Redemptorist guest priests concelebrated it. Parishioners of Saverapura actively participated in the liturgy and gave thanks to the Lord for the fruitful 25 years.
The stage programme that followed was presided over by bishop Aloysius. Other guests were Fr Paul Sequeira, dean of Moodbidri deanery, parish priest Fr Rakesh Mathias, Redemptorist rector Fr Eugene DSilva, founder parish priest Fr Mathias Pereira, Belvai panchayat president Bhaskara Acharya, parish council vice-president Vincent D'Souza and secretary Severene Crasta.
Fr Paul, Fr Mathias and Bhaskara Acharya, in their message, congratulated parishioners on the occasion of the silver jubilee.
The person responsible for the development of Saverapura, Fr Eugene D'Silva, was honoured with title 'Saverapuracho Suryo'. The bishop was also honoured on occasion. In his message, the bishop lauded the efforts of Redemptorist priests in the overall development of Saverapura.
Parish priest Fr Rakesh welcomed the guests. Vincent DSouza proposed the vote of thanks. Vishal Colaco and Janer Rodrigues compered the programme.
The programme concluded with a grand jubilee lunch, prepared by parishioners.
