Mangaluru: MBC seed bombs parts of city to rejuvenate it, for Vanamahotsava

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 30:
Mangalore Bicycle Club celebrated Vanamahotsava, with a participation of around 30 riders along with their family members, on Sunday, July 30.

Riders assembled at the club's registered office, Prakash Offset Printers, early in the day and planted fruit saplings on its premises.

The club then proceeded with a ride to Tannirbhavi. Rotary Club Mangaluru sponsored around 200 seed balls to be planted during the Vanamahotsava celebrations on the Tannirbhavi stretch. MBC made groups of 5 members each, who dropped seed balls at appropriate spots.

The idea of the ride was to contribute to the environment conservation and afforestation. Seed balls consisted of seeds of flowering and fruit plants. The riders throughout their ride stretch dropped the seed balls into empty fields and farms.

The concept of seed bombing is widely used across the globe to ensure the barren lands and empty lots are efficiently used to add greenery to the neighborhood. Moreover seed ball bombing or dropping has gained popularity across as the plants that grown from them are low on maintenance and have high chances of growing due to the initial nutritional content in the ball.

The Vanamahotsava celebration concluded with the decision to continue the initiative throughout the year and not restrict it to a part of the year. To convert barren land in and around Mangaluru into a greener space slowly and steadily, the club decided to try and source seed balls and requested its members to carry them during all their rides.
