Bengaluru, Jul 29: Granting Constitutional Status to the National Backward Classes Commission is a historic and revolutionary step by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, claimed State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa in Bengaluru on Saturday July 29.
Addressing a state-level seminar organised by the BJP OBC Morcha here, Yeddyurappa said that for the first time the Backward Classes can take up their problems with the Backward Classes Commission and get redressed anywhere in the country.
“The recommendations and report of the NBC is mandatory for the states to implement,” he said.
“After demonetisation and implementing GST and according to constitutional status to Backward Commission is historic,” State BJP President added.
Yeddyurappa said the Backward Classes, who account for more than 40 per cent of the population, will be immensely benefitted by this one move.
Delivering his keynote address, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thavar Chand Gehlot said the bill to provide constitutional status to National BC Commission has been referred to the Joint Select Committee in the Rajya Sabha and expressed confidence that the Upper House too will pass the bill at the earliest.
“I appeal to all the parties to ensure that the bill is passed unanimously,” Gehlot added.
Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao, leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa, deputy leader of the opposition in the Assembly R Ashok, State BJP general secretaries Aravinda Limbavali and N Ravi Kumar and State OBC Morcha President B J Puttaswamy were also present on the occasion.
