Mangaluru, Jul 29: Transport officials conducted an operation against buses which violated rules. They seized 12 buses found to be not issuing tickets to passengers, and five more which were found to have removed speed governors.
The transport officials had been receiving complaints that tickets are not being issued in several buses. Transport deputy commissioner, G S Hegde, said that the operation was conducted as per law as repeated instructions issued to Bus Owners Association did not get the response expected of it.
He said that operations are being carried out against use of shrill horns and contract carriage buses violating rules. "Many times in the past, we had issued oral instructions and the concerned escaped by giving false assurances. Henceforth, we will continue to initiate strict steps," he added.
Hegde also said that there have been complaints of bus conductors behaving rudely with passengers. He said that the responsibility of allowing senior citizens, differently abled persons and women to occupy seats reserved for them is the responsibility of everyone and that the conductors have the responsibility of monitoring them.
