Moodbidri: Theft at Karinangady - gold, cash valued over two lac rupees lost

Moodbidri, Jul 29: Thieves who entered a house in Karinangady, Beluvai village near here on the night of Thursday July 27 succeeded in stealing gold ornaments and cash worth over two lac rupees even as family members slept inside the house.

The house targetted by the thieves belongs to Sridhar Suvarna, who is employed abroad. 72 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 21,000 in cash and US currency notes worth around Rs 50,000 have been stolen.

The thieves entered the house by breaking open the bolt of the back door of the house. They used the key of three cupboards found in the bedroom to steal valuables and ornaments.

Sridhar Suvarna's wife, Janaki, who happens to be a teacher and her sons, had gone to bed after having dinner on Thursday night. At around 4 am on Friday, Srikant got up and found that things had been stolen from the house. On being informed, local police circle inspector, Ramachandra Nayak, along with crime department inspector, Shankar Nairy, visited the spot. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. Police have registered a case.
