Mangaluru: Fr Lawerence Gomes laid to rest at Valencia Church

Mangaluru, Jul 25: The funeral rites of Fr Lawerence Gomes (80) was held at Valencia Church on Monday, July 24.

Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, bishop of Mangaluru, was the main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebration. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi and priests from both the dioceses concelebrant.

Fr Basil Vas the nephew of Fr Lawerence Gomes preached the homily at the mass. Fr Peter Noronha gave the panegyric. 


    












































































Fr Lawrence, a native of Bantwal, joined the seminary in 1954. He was ordained a priest in 1962. He served in Agrar, Bendur, Kadaba, Belman, Sathan, Shirva, and Karkala Town parishes. He lived in the retired priets' home in Jeppu till his death.

There are many vocations from Fr Lawerence's family.

Fr Basil Vas, parish priest of Madanthyar, Fr Norbert Lobo, parish priest of Mukka and Fr Naveen Prakash, head master at Sampaje School,  and religious sisters, were present at the mass. Many priests and also faithful from the parishes where Fr Lawerence served were present for the funeral rite.
