Udupi, Jul 24: Malabar Gold & Diamonds distributed financial aid to the homeless, for the construction of homes, and felicitated Salumarada Thimmakka, at an event held at Malabar Gold & Diamonds showroom, here on Sunday, July 23.
As part of their CSR activities, the housing charity wing of Malabar Gold & Diamonds in Karnataka region distributed the financial aid for the construction of homes to the beneficiaries.
On occasion, Salumarada Thimmakka, the great personality, was felicitated by the chief guests along with the Malabar office bearers.
Also popular as 'Vrikshamathe', Salumarada Thimmakka, after receiving the honour said, "People of Udupi have blessed me with this felicitation. Each one should promote planting a sampling. The birds and animals will eat the fruit and will continue to not be dependent on other beings. Even though I am not educated, I can contribute a lot to nature by planting hundreds of trees. That way, I become a model for the nation too. Planting a tree is believed as great work."
Taluk Panchayat president Nalini Pradeep Rao said, "Malabar Gold is under taking many pro-social welfare activities under CSR plan. I wish everyone the best. May this Gold centre develop grow further economically."
Beneficiaries received financial aid for their homes from the chief guests Salumarada Thimmakka, Nalini Pradeep and Shyam Prasad Kodava Thenkapete, ward councillor.
Rashmitha Balakrishna Shetty Nittur ward councillor, Vasanti Madwaraj Yellur president, grama panchayat were other guests present at the event.
For the year, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Udupi has distributed six houses in their first stage, to the beneficiaries.
The gold store owner Hafeez Rehman was also present on occasion.
The social wing of Malabar Group focuses on conceptualising and implementing the corporate social responsibility initiatives. CSR initiatives have been at the core of the Malabar Group's corporate philosophy right from the days of inception. Over the last two decades the group has contributed substantially to the welfare of the society through CSR activities such as supply of free life saving medicines, financial aid for construction of homes for the homeless, women empowerment programmes, student scholarships and environment protection activities, among others.
In this monsoon, the Malabar team members were planted more than 2300 saplings across Udupi, in schools, colleges, office premises and parks. Malabar Group spends 5% of its profit for CSR activities. The Housing Charitable Trust under Malabar Group has already given financial aid of around Rs.29 Cr for more 11000 homes.
