Mangaluru: Man from Gurpur held, two kg ganja recovered

Mangaluru, Jul 22: Personnel of city crime branch here, on Thursday July 21, arrested Jamal (35), a native of Kottarigudde, Gurpur. Two kilograms of ganja was recovered from Jamal, who was bringing ganja to the city from Uppal in Kasargod district.

In addition to ganja, a cellphone and a two-wheeler were confiscated. Total worth of things seized has been put at Rs 1.15 lac.

The police had  been alerted about ganja being transported in a white Honda Activa two-wheeler bearing no registration number. They arrested the accused from near Talapady tollgate. The things seized as well as the accused were handed over to Ullal police station for further action.

Police personnel said that Jamal has already been named as accused in double murder at K C Road in 2000, Puttu Bava murder in city rural police station limits, and another murder attempt case.

The operation was conducted by CCB inspector, Sunil Y Naik and police sub-inspector, Shyam Sundar, under the guidance of DCPs, K M Shantharaju and Hanumantharaya, and assistant commissioner of police, Valentine D'Souza, as per the directions of city police commissioner, T R Suresh.
