Rio de Janeiro, Jul 21 (IANS): Former Sporting Lisbon striker Andre scored his eighth goal in 14 league matches as Sport Recife routed Atletico Goianiense 4-0 in Brazil's Serie A championship.
The 26-year-old on Thursday struck either side of half-time after Patrick Bezerra and Diego Souza gave the hosts a 2-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes.
The result at the Ilha do Retiro stadium lifted Sport to fifth in the standings with 24 points from 15 matches, while Atletico remained last with just eight points.
It was Sport's fifth win in their past six league matches under former Real Madrid and Brazil national coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who was appointed in May with the team in the relegation zone.
In other matches on Thursday, Botafogo held hosts Atletico Paranaense to a goalless draw and Cruzeiro drew 1-1 away to Fluminense.
