200 madrasa boys detained at Bengaluru railway station fearing trafficking

Bengaluru, Jul 12 (IANS): About 200 boys aged 8-13 years of age were detained at the Cantonment railway station for hours on Tuesday, fearing they were victims of human trafficking but let off after verifying their identities, said police.

"On a tip-off by a fellow passenger, we asked all the boys and their 20 teachers to alight from the Guwahati Express at the Cantonment railway station and kept till evening to verify their status, where they were coming from and going to which place," a Railway Police Force (RPF) official told reporters after initial inquiry into their status.

Sporting skull caps, wearing kurta-pyjama and carrying steel trunks in one hand, the boys were kept in the waiting hall from noon to 7.00 p.m. though a few samaritans gave them food and drinking water till the inquiry was completed and let off.

"We have freed them and their teachers after verifying their identity and profile, as they are students and faculty of madrassas in Karnataka and other states returning from Ramadan vacation," Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Jinendra told reporters here.

Preliminary probe found some of the boys were from Bengaluru, Madikeri, Sagar and Tumakuru in the state while others were from neighbouring states.

"They were initially suspected to be victims of human trafficking from Bangladesh to Kerala due to their common profile, attire and language," said Jinendra.

Many boys were from Assam, Bihar and West Bengal, but studying in the state madrasas," added the official.

I myself was skeptical of what is being taught in Madrasas. It will be great if Muslim leaders and community people show general citizens what is being taught and the service being provided there.
I am from orthodox Hindu background and I have many cousins who only attended Vedic schools. My own brother is a priest. But I work in technical/ scientific field.
My view has been that every society needs all professions in appropriate proportions. For example, 5% farmers, 5% fighters (army, police etc), 10% government, 2% religious workers, 5% doctors/ nurses and so on. If the proportion of one profession is higher, the people in that profession face a lot of competition. And they come up with creative marketing to stay in profession and survive. For example, if you are a merchant, your motivation is to create a market for your product and then sell it. So, if there are too many religious workers (any religion), your motivation will always be to solve a religious problem. If there is none, then the crooked ones in the field will come with fancy marketing tactics and create a market (maata, mantra, pishachi, taawiz etc...- every religion has it).
Case in point, there are many southern US cities that have more churches than needed. People in these cities gave religion excess weightage than warranted and neglected other facets such as education, technology, healthcare. Such cities are now in ruins, in poverty, and churches are going bankrupt. The same will happen to any religion/ city / society.

Bottom-line: Life and society needs to have a balance.

    Sir, PK
The 'Madrasa' if translated in English is nothing but school of learning. Though most of the these schools are run on charities poor parents who can't afford their children's send them to study to memorise Islamic Holy book 'Quran'.
As the approach to the modern world and limited job avenues ,these schools are moderning these days which give education in other fields to make them professionals. I can list various names which mass media has not publishing got success from these schools. One such schools were 117 out of 138 student got succeeded in JEE-Mains.
In this modern era of digital media we are carried away by fake news and negative publicity. We have no time verify the authentication of news and quick to forward. This space has made the media from responsible journalism to paid journalism. It is me and you any many get caught in the tide.
One should not go from his attire but knowledge he holds. Every person in this world is different and everyone is some skills. But circumstance leads him to choose the wrong path.
Be a wise citizen of India we need to be careful in words.
It is common to send our children for higher education these days. Every parents want his children better than him/her. These too are someone's childrens dreaming for better. Only thing is their uniforms are not appealing for the masses.

In madrasas, students become more patriotic and secular then members of RSS shaka's for sure.. they taught to love their motherland and even die to protect own nation.. studying history of 'shuhada's / freedom fighters who died protecting their land from real enemies of humanity.. they tough to practice brotherhood irrespective of religion and uplift humanity.
BJP spreading dirty lies about such institutions as part of their agenda. Madrasas were there even before BJP's birth and there were no issues.. now suddenly it becomes terrorism for them.

Raoof, forgive my ignorance about what is happening in madrasa in places I am not aware of.
But i have seen kids staying in Yathimkhanas who get only madrasa education, they grow up to become nothing else than madrasa teachers or moulavis. Same with the case of vaidik schools.
When you feed excessive religion to kids, they tend to grow religiously fanatic.
