Mangaluru, Jul 11: The government has envisaged setting of sports adventure park at a cost of Rs.4.25 crore in six acres of land by the side of existing park at Pilikula. This is aimed at further exploiting the tourism potential of coastal Karnataka.
It is learnt that final details of the project are being worked out and Bengaluru-based Wonderla has submitted a proposal coupled with plan for the adventure sports, to the department of tourism. The government, it is learnt, is actively considering this proposal as youngsters and children are particularly attracted towards adventures.
It is said that as per the proposal, separate sections will be setup for young people and the aged. Current idea is that 70 percent of the project cost would be borne by tourism department, with the remaining fund coming from the promoters. Income from the park will be shared in the same proportion. Wonderla also has identified several other spots in the state for setting up of adventure parks, it is learnt.
Lake at Pilikula
The proposed site for the adventure park is located near Jungle Lodges and Resorts near Shivaram Karanth Park at Pilikula. Sports like bungee jumping, cage riders, combo slithering, jump video, jump photograph, drink in the sky will be available once the park is opened. In addition, bull ride, valero wall, running bungee, gladiator, big glove boxing, sumo wrestling, air rifle shooting, rock wall etc would be set up, it is said. Childrens section will have trampoline, kids rope bridge, kids mini zipline, rubber swimming pool, remote control car race etc.
Tourism consultant of Dakshina Kannada distict, Sudheer Gowda, said that the proposal sent by Wonderla to set up the said park is with the government and it is expected to get government nod soon. Once approval is received, work will begin on the park, he clarified.
