Mangaluru, Jul 9: The city crime branch (CCB) police on Sunday July 9 arrested three persons in connection to the murderous assault on a student at Adyar Padavu on the evening of July 7.
The arrested are Nitin Poojary (21), a resident of Farangipete and electrician by profession, Pranesh Poojary (20), a resident of Adyar, and Kishan Poojary (21) of Padil, who is a carpenter.
Sajid (23), a native of Mallapuram in Kerala, pursuing civil engineering in a city-based college, was attacked by a group on July 7.
Sajid and his friend Naufal were returning by bike to Bittpade after having tea at Adyar when a group of three stopped them by the roadside and told them that their two-wheeler had run out of petrol. When Naufal and Sajid came forward to give them petrol, the youths attacked them. While Naufal managed to escape, Sajid sustained injuries and was admitted to a private hospital where he is still recuperating. The attackers fled from the spot soon after.
Among the arrested persons, the first and second accused already face other cases in Mangaluru rural police station.
The CCB police recovered the two-wheeler used in the crime. Both the two-wheeler as well as the accused have been handed over to Mangaluru rural police for further investigations.
The arrest operation was conducted on the orders of police commissioner T R Suresh, and under the directions of DCPs Shantharaju and Hanumantharaya. The team was guided by ACP Valentine D'Souza, and led by CCB inspector Sunil Y Naik.
