Mangaluru, Jun 29: "Light House Hill Road, later named St Aloysius College Road, will be renamed as Mulky Sundararama Shetty Road on July 2 as initiated by Vijaya Bank Workers Organisation. The ceremony will be held at the premises of Vijaya Bank regional office at 10 am," informed Sitharam Shetty, former president of Vijaya Bank Workers' Organisation.
Addressing the media persons on Thursday, June 29, he said, "Our organisation has been doing at lot of social work in the name of Mulky Sundararama Shetty. The official process for renaming the road had begun in 2010. We had been to different government offices in Mangaluru as well as Bengaluru to get this done. This is like a dream come true for all of us."
Mulky Karunakar Shetty, former president, Vijaya Bank Workers' and Officers' Union said, "We have put a lot of effort behind this initiative since 2010 and also got the official letter from the government to go forward with the renaming. We have done this work without any help from government officials. We request the media to support us in this initiative."
"District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the programme, mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Kavitha Sanil, deputy commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesh, police commissioner R Suresh, minister of food and civil supplies U T Khader, commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation Mohammed Nazir, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Moideen Bava and J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza, chief whip of MCC Shashidhar Hegde, former mayors Harinath M and Mahabala Maarla, Dr N Vinaya Hegde, Dr Mohan Alva, A J Shetty, A Sadananda Shetty, Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi, former minister K Amarnath Shetty, Indrali Jayakar Shetty, opposition leader Ganesh Hosabettu, regional corporator Vinaya Raja and all other corporators will be the guests of honour at the programme," he informed
Shridhar Shetty M, Raghuram Suvarna and Bhaskar Malli were also present.
