Mangalore: MESCOM Suspends Three Persons for Lineman’s Death

Mangalore, Apr 16: In a disciplinary action Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (MESCOM) has suspended three persons in connection with the death of Ganesh, a contract employee of the company who was electrocuted while on duty near Bajpe on Saturday April 12.

The suspended employees are MESCOM’s junior engineer at Bajpe P M Yogaraj and two linemen Jose and Ramesh. They are accused of causing death by negligence under 304 A of Indian Penal Code. A case has been registered in Bajpe Police Station in this regard.

The action by the company was taken considering prima facie evidence as it was found that the suspended personnel did not follow the established rules while carrying out repair works.

The company will compensate its employee's death by giving Rs 1 lac to the family of the victim.

    It's really sad to note that MESCOM values the life of its employee a mere Rs 1,00,000. I would like to know on what basis does it calculate compensation for life lost due to its negligence.
