Mangalore, Apr 16: Chikungunya has once again made its appearance in Sullia and Puttur taluks,  said health department officials here on recently.

According to the health officials the number of cases in Puttur and Sullia taluks have increased and there is a high chance of the disease spreading to the neighboring taluks. Officials said that nearly 1,687 cases have been identified with symptoms of Chikungunya out of which 35 cases are in Aranthod, 90 in Kollamogaru, 43 in Bellare, 53 in Subramanya and 73 in Kadaba.

DHO Jagannath said that health officials have visited 5,818  houses in two taluks and have collected blood samples of those suffering from fever. A total of 530 blood samples show indications of being infected by chikungunya.

Rs 4.5 lac has been released to control the spread of the chikungunya in the district and three mobile teams with four doctors were sent to the affected region on Tuesday April 15, said Dr Jagannath.
