Mumbai, Apr 15: 'United Ways of Vision,' a social welfare charitable trust at Nallasopara organized a blood donation drive in the premises of St Francis De Sales (SFS) in association with the Bombay Hospital and Medical Research Centre here.
Fr Sushant Kumar, assistant parish priest of SFS church inaugurated the donation drive and lit the lamp along with president Donald D'Souza, secretary Joylan Fernandes and treasurer Arun Pinto of the organization. Doctors of Bombay Hospital were present on the dais. Office-bearers of different associations of the church too were present on the occasion.
Eighteen staff members including the doctors and medical officers of Bombay Hospital took part and assisted in the blood donation drive. Breakfast, soft drinks and a flower bouquet with a small token gift were given to blood donors on the occasion.
On the previous day too a mega awareness rally was organized to spread the message and explain the purpose of blood donation to the people of the area. Fr Jerson D'Souza, parish priest of SFS church inaugurated the mobile rally with prayers and blessings. The rally started at 4.30 pm covering all main roads, streets, by-lanes, stopping at all major junctions, malls , gardens, railway station, all public places with the announcements, banners and placards. As many as 100 people took part in the rally on six four-wheelers and 25 two-wheelers.
As the saying goes well begun is half done, the blood donation programme too in that sense was truly successful. More than 150 units of blood were collected for the noble cause. Joylan Fernandes thanked all the people who were part of this successful blood donation drive.
