Udupi, Jun 17: The rider of a motor bike lost his life after a tanker knocked down his vehicle from the opposite direction. The incident happened opposite S S Bar in Nagaraja Estate on the national highway in Padubidri on Friday June 16 afternoon. Eyewitnesses placed the blame on the driver of the tanker, who reportedly was driving his vehicle recklessly at high speed.
The deceased was Deepak Urwa (27) from Mangaluru. Mallika (21), who was in the pillion, suffered extensive injuries. Deepak had visited the city to organize the programme on gem and jewellery institute inaugural and Mallika was his colleague in the event management firm. Deepak was riding Mallika to Mangaluru to drop her there, when the said accident happened.
A tanker registered in Tamil Nadu, which was carrying petrol from Mangaluru to Odisha swerved to the extreme right opposite S S Bar and hit the motor bike head on. Deepak had lent his helmet to the pillion rider and hence, lost his life on the spot. A case stands registered at Padubidri station and Mallika was admitted into a hospital in Mangaluru.
