Beltangady, Jun 10: It came to light on Friday June 9 that miscreants entered Jalalia Madrassa at Elpel, Kukkippady village within Punjalkatte police station limits and torched its furniture.
Jalalia Madrassa at Elpel functions under Badriya Jumma Masjid at Mavinakatte. Apparently mischief mongers entered the Madrassa late night on Thursday and put the things inside on fire. At the time, door of the Madrassa was not locked although it was bolted. Therefore, the arsonists gained access into the Madrassa without much effort. They heaped the Musalla used for offering namaz on the desk before dousing the furniture with kerosene and setting the same on fire.
Empty kerosene bottle was found on the spot. Desk and window doors were found to have been partially burnt due to fire.
About the incident, president of Mavinakatte Jumma Masjid, Abdul Razack, filed complaint in Punjalkatte police station. District superintendent of police, Dr Bhushan G Borase, deputy superintendent of police, Raveesh, police circle inspector from the town, R Nagesh, and sub-inspector, Chandrashekhar, visited the spot and guided investigation.
