Mangalore: Failure in Physics Exams - Varsity Girl Ends Life

Mangalore, Apr 9: A student of Manglore University committed suicide on Tuesday, April 8 after she failed in one subject in her semestral exams.

The deceased has been identified as Chaitra, resident of Monkey Stand. She was doing her master in physics from Mangalore University

Sources said that, her third semester results were declared on Tuesday and she failed in one of the general subjects. Once she came to know about the results, she took the extreme step of ending her life.

Pandeshwar station police have registered a case.

One of her lecturers informed daijiworld that, she was an average student in the class and she would have passed inn the next attempt easily.

It is common that, few students fail in some subjects in physics. But she went home early on Tuesday, informing her classmates that she would discontinue the course. But they got the news late in the evening that she had ended her life.

    First, My heart felt condolenses to parents of Chaitra. May god bless her soul. The students committing suicide shows the competition in studies and getting high marks bring name, fame and well paid jobs in the market. The parents shipld not put pressure or discourage their child in any way when they fail in their studies but rather give them hope to do better.

    Taking life for not doing well in education, for me, still a mystry as to why youngsters do this. I feel sorry for Chaitra's parents for losing their child for this. While recognising the value the society is placing on education in todays times it is societal mistake for making education alone as number one priority of life. Are we placing too much emphasis on education? Can't the society live without the education? Aren't there alternatives to make a living? These are the questions society and for that matter educational institutions must answer.

    Failing in subject or for that matter in a class is that failure of life? I think the society is missing the boat and its time we learn to live without education or little education for that matter and accept that failure in education is not the end of the world or life.

    My sympathies to Chita's parents. It is indeed a tragedy now a days when anybody fails in life takes the extreme step of ending ones own life. Is our school, colledge marks are everything. Is ones career starts in academic marks. Our school, colleges, elders should enlighten the younger ones to accept failures in life and how to overcome with it. Let Chaitra's incident may be the last. Sucess starts when we overcome with failures.
