Mangaluru, Jun 1: Chief whip of Karnataka Legislative assembly Ivan D'Souza on Thursday, June 1 dismissed rumours of internal conflicts due to the organisational revamp at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and said that all was well within the Congress camp in the state.
Addressing the mediapersons at his office in MCC, Ivan said, "As a spokesperson of the state Congress committee, I welcome this move of revamp. Congress has already started preparations for the Assembly elections which will contested under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Dr G Parameshwara will resign from his position in the state cabinet and devote his time and energy to his current post as the president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. It is a good team. It guarantees our victory."
"BJP and JDS are spreading fake news and day dreaming that the state will see elections by the end of this year or early next year. Siddaramaiah-led government in the state will complete its tenure and will retain power for the next five years. The Congress-led government has already proved that it is a people friendly government. So in the upcoming elections, we will highlight our success story. During the time of BJP, they changed three chief ministers, stayed in resorts and at last, shifted their administration to jail. After that people of Karnataka rejected them and gave power to Congress. We tried to reach people with our welfare programmes and they supported us with open hearts. So now BJP is in fear of another major defeat, but they are not ready to accept it,” he added.
No internal politics
“There is no internal conflict in Congress. Some are trying to spread rumors that D K Shivakumar is unhappy with the revamp. But AICC took all decisions in the presence of Shivakumar. He himself welcomed the decision. But in BJP it is not possible. There are many groups like Eshwarappa, Yaddyurappa and Ananth Kumar. All are hungry for power. They cannot select their team unanimously. If sixteen people are called to select a team, they will propose sixteen names for leadership. They are jealous of Congress. Without any discrimination of caste and creed, we selected our team. We are all united right from the booth level," said Ivan.
Cow slaughter law, totally meaningless
“The decisions of Modi-led central government is against farmers' interest and their welfare. Now the government is trying to implement Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rule. It is totally meaningless. Farmers sell aged cows in market for money to buy new ones or other agriculture related purposes. In the new rule, the government has blocked the income of farmers and imposed an extra burden on them. In Indian Constitution, the matter of 'Cow' comes under the state administration. But without consulting the state, the central government has issued the new rule. We strongly oppose this move," he said.
"In its three years of rule, BJP has failed to give justice to farmers. Every day, the government is announcing new programmes which are against farmers and entire nations' welfare. Pakistan is attacking on our soldiers continuously on the borders. But the central government is still in deep silence. Nothing has been done so far. Issuing new cow slaughter rules, the central government is targeting Muslims and trying to snatch slaughter markets from them and handing it over to corporate houses,” he alleged?.
